Background

Founded in 1985, by Albert J. Nader, Questar, Inc. is one of the country’s leading producers, marketers and distributors of non-fiction programming for television, home entertainment, education, web and digital. Dedicated to superior quality programs, Questar has won five awards from The American Film Institute, and has been honored by Billboard Magazine and at The Covenant Awards. Questar’s Rome: Power & Glory was named Best Educational Documentary at The DVD 2000 Entertainment Awards, while Bobby Darin: Mack Is Back received a Certificate of Excellence as Best Music DVD.


Home Entertainment

Questar currently has a library of more than 3,000 titles covering a broad range of family-friendly subjects, including theatrical releases, travel, popular culture, U.S. and world history, wildlife, Americana, children’s programming, British, and inspirational programming. Questar programs are distributed to more than 25,000 retail and digital outlets, 300 lifestyle catalogs, and 15,000 public libraries and museums, as well as direct marketing companies with an annual reach of 90 million homes. Questar products are distributed through Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Costco, Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Netflix, iTunes, Blockbuster, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Columbia House, and Reader’s Digest.

Television

Questar has produced more than 100 original programs for PBS, The Discovery Channel, TLC, The Travel Channel, The History Channel (A&E Networks), and PAX-TV Network. These programs are distributed to 25 countries around the world.

Distribution Partnerships and Growth

In 2000, Questar acquired IVN Entertainment, thereby becoming one of the largest producers and distributors of cultural and travel programming in North America. In 2001, Questar established its education division by acquiring New Dimension Media, a company which serves over 100,000, K-12 schools through media centers throughout the country. In 2003, Questar acquired Encounter Video of Portland, Oregon, expanding its national park catalog to become a leader in Nature programming. Questar also has long-term distribution agreements with Reader’s Digest, National Geographic (Education), Disney Educational Productions, National Science Foundation, Weston Woods (Scholastic), PBS Nature, PorchLight Entertainment and Patchett Kaufman Entertainment.
